Stop the Executions

July 25 Update: Mohammad Mostafaei's wife and brother-in-law were arrested at approximately 11 pm on Saturday, July 24, in a possible attempt to put pressure on Mostafaei or take him into custody. Earlier the same day Mohammad Mostafaei himself had visited the Intelligence Prosecutor office inside Evin prison to which he had been earlier summoned, and attended an interrogation session which lasted for 4 hours. Later in the afternoon, security forces went to Mr. Mostafaei’s office with an arrest warrant, but he was not present there. No further information about his whereabouts is currently available.

Mostafaei is a prominent children's rights activist and human rights attorney in Iran and has represented many Iranian youths on death row, including Mohammad Reza Haddadi (http://www.rhairan.us/en/?p=5226). He was the one who recently publicized Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani's stoning case and has been an outspoken critic of the Iranian regime's death sentences and inhumane practices for years. As such he is in considerable danger, particularly under the current atmosphere of repression in Iran.
