Name: Motahareh Bahrami
Location: Evin Prison
Date condemned: April 2010
Charge: Mohareb
Overturned: May 15, 2010
Notes: Motahareh Bahrami was arrested on Ashura (December 27, 2009) with her husband Mohsen Daneshvar, her son Mehdi Daneshvar, and two family friends, including Reyhaneh Haj Ebrahim. According to reports, all 5 have been sentenced to death by the Islamic Republic as Mohareb, a politically-charged sentence that means "warring with" or "enemy of God" and is used by the regime to condemn prisoners who have committed no true crime. Motahareh Bahrami and the other 4 prisoners have been condemned due to her other son's alleged ties to People's Mujahedin of Iran (سازمان مجاهدين خلق ايران otherwise known as MEK, MKO or PMOI, among others). Motahareh was previously in Ward 209 and is currently held in the women's block of Iran's notorious Evin Prison, and her case is under appeal.

Update: Amnesty International reports that Motahareh's sentence was commuted to a prison term. While this is still an outrageous punishment and she will likely face torture and neglect, her life is not in immediate danger of being taken by the state.
